Buffalo Makers Hub is a space for new makers to learn, engage, and be creative in a relaxed, social setting that doesn’t compromise the integrity of your medium. Workshops are unique and local-artist driven. Founder Dr. Julie Carter is a life-long educator and self-trained artist who founded the Buffalo Collage Club in 2022.

Buffalo Makers Hub is currently seeking teaching artists who enjoy working with adult beginners and who can focus on the many reasons adults may seek creativity as an outlet. We see Buffalo Makers Hub as a way to infuse more creativity/making into the WNY community in a way that is accessible for all.

Artist-designed and run

Buffalo Makers Hub will offer unique, event-specific workshops taught by a wide network of WNY artists and crafters who create unique, accessible, and community-engaged art experiences.

2-3 hour workshops should:

• be at an introductory level

• be able to be completed in either one or two sessions

• require commercially available materials so that makers can continue creating at home.

What’s expected of you as the teaching artist

• Community Engagement: Build a meaningful, welcoming and hands-on experience for new makers.

• Preparation: Meet with Julie to plan the workshop and the Makers Guide for participants, as well as a test run of the workshop (est. 5 hours)

• Social Reach: We advertise but You must promote on your socials to recruit participants.

• Flexible Format: You are free to design the project and flow of the experience.

• Repeating sessions: We hope you will offer repeating sessions several times per year.

Materials

Provided as per your requirements (note: substitutions may be necessary due to budget or availability)

Pay negotiable based on your medium and required time. Very basic MOU and 1099

Space

Location as per venue availability and requirements (wet or dry mediums)

Future Impact

Our plan is that Buffalo Makers Hub becomes a permanent brick and mortar collective for artists and makers housing materials, retail space and available studio and for teaching artists. Buffalo Makers Hub will eventually hold in-house workshops several times per week.
